HOWARD BLANK - FOUNDING MEMBER OF THE STARFIRES / OUTSIDERS

Howard is a founding member of "Tom King & the Starfires" which became "Tom King & the Outsiders" after the release of "Time Won't Let Me" which was recorded by The Starfires in 1965.

The Starfires changed their name to The Outsiders at the request of Capitol Records when Capitol Records released the #5 hit song "Time Won't Let Me".

As with most music groups, members change over time. This group is no exception with over two dozen band members within a few years.

Howard Blank is the trademark owner of  "Howard Blank's The Outsiders". and also "The Starfires".

In 1996 Tom King, the founding band leader for the Starfires and the Outsiders released an album titled "The Starfires, Roots of the Outsiders". The album included fourteen songs of which Howard Blank was the drummer on thirteen. This album represents the Starfires and the beginning of what eventually became known as the Outsiders. Howard's picture is on the album cover.

The current legal owner of the trademark "The Outsiders" is Rick Biagiola. Rick  was the drummer who joined after drummers Howard Blank, Jimmy Fox and Ronald Haraki had left the group, and long after the name was changed to the Outsiders.

The current legal owner of the Outsiders trademark, Rick Biagiola was not the original Outsiders drummer but was the first to apply for and was granted the legal trademark after the death of Sonny Geraci.

To keep The Starfires and The Outsiders music and memory alive, Howard relaunched his version of the band as "Howard Blank's The Outsiders" and "Roots of The outsiders" as a secondary trademark.

Howard does acknowledge the existence of the other group called the Outsiders with Rick Biagiola, but Howard does claim the distinction of being the only original founding drummer of The Starfires /  The Outsiders.
